INTRODUCTION:

April 2025 and it wasn't the first either! Grand Central, Arriva's open access operation announced a bid to run five services a day between Newcastle and Brighton. These would run via York, Doncaster, Sheffield, Derby, Birmingham New Street, thence via the Thames Valley to Reading where they would run via the North Downs line to Redhill before joining the Brighton mainline.

The first service southbound would start from New Street, with the last departure from Brighton terminating at New Street. The first departure northbound would also start at New Street with the last departure from Newcastle terminating at New Street too.

I do not think they will get the go ahead to run these.....but I'm happy to be proved wrong.
