Inter regional loco hauled services from Brighton 1991.

The Summer Great Britain Timetable is dated from 8th July 1991 when the previous one finished 12th May 1991.....what happened to the missing month? Thanks to Steve Carter for letting me know the Winter timetable was extended a month to coincide with the completion of the East Coast Mainline electrification scheme.

Little change to the Brighton services on weekdays with the Summer Saturday services running to and from Eastbourne once again. The Eastbourne to Manchester service continues to run via the West Coast Mainline but the Milton Keynes stop is now only southbound.

The Sunday service to and from Derby lasted just the one year. Sundays now saw what would later become the norm, just the one train runs to and from Brighton through to Glasgow Central but is routed via Manchester Piccadilly and Bolton.

The Kent train continued to run to and from Liverpool Lime Street but was retimed once again and now also runs once again to Dover Western Docks. The train is routed via Chatham in both directions and has the same timings on a Saturday. No Sunday service.

As an aside there were in addition to the cross country services there were just five local services each way in the morning between Clapham Junction and Kensington Olympia with six in the afternoon.

Class 47/8 operation continued on services south of New Street with AC electric haulage north of. The only exception to this was the train routed via the WCML which changed traction at Mitre Bridge / West London Junction. The Sunday train from Brighton would have retained it's class 47 through to Preston with the loco change there.

	In my last remaining "Trip" book ( re-discovered in the garage) I found this day out on Monday the 4th May 1992. Timings for 47807 and a standard 7 car set between Reading and Brighton. An on time departure from Reading led to a 20 minute early arrival at Brighton. To be fair this was not uncommon as stops south of Olympia were always treated as set down only even though they weren't. We were even early away from Olympia that night. The trip at the bottom of the page was after taking a van load of computer equipment from British Rail Business Systems at Kings House, Kings Cross to Exeter St Davids for some T.E.B. staff training...any ex or current BR retail staff out there remember C.A.T.E?
