INTRODUCTION:
Another
destination bites the dust.
No major change
to any timings apart from the Sunday departure from Brighton which left
2 hours earlier and now ran to Edinburgh rather than Glasgow and arrived
nearly 3 hours earlier.
The summer
Saturday diversion to and from Eastbourne didn't run from 1997 with both
trains now running to and from Brighton as per weekdays.
The summer
Saturday Birmingham to Ramsgate service ran again for a four week
season.
The Summer 1997
timetable also saw Connex Southcentral start a hourly service between
Gatwick and Rugby via Kensington Olympia. These used the 319/0 units
transfered to them on privatisation, combined with the Silverlink
Clapham Junction to Willesden Junction service this gave Olympia three trains an
hour in each direction, unheard of just a few years earlier. There was a
regular Sunday service to Olympia for the first time in many years.
